The Roles:
At Brussels MEU participants will have to choose between the following roles:
Member of the European Parliament, Minister in the Council of the European Union, Head of State / Head of Government in the European Council and Journalist
The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union will reproduce a simplified version of the co-decision procedure between both institutions. During the first session, the Commission introduces two proposals on the floor by virtue of its legislative initiative. The procedure begins by the simultaneous introduction of the proposals, one to the European Parliament and one to the Council of the European Union. In the course of the simulation, the proposals are being exchanged several times between the representatives of both institutions. Each of them has of course the chance to pass amendments on the Commission’s proposals.
The European Council defines the general political direction and priorities of the European Union. It provides the Union with the necessary impetus for its development and defines the general political directions and priorities thereof.
A part of the political life is the press’s statements and reports. With this in mind, Brussels Model European Union gives an opportunity to aspiring journalists or reporters to apply and improve their writing skills while learning about European institutions.
